The Heartbeat prints can be seen as a sort of mapping of the tempos of different heart rates of different beings we share the planet with. Each space within the composition represents a beat or space of beats in relation to the others around it. For instance, a rabbit may be about a 1:5 ratio to a chickadee. While physically drawing the 540 bpm of a chickadee, I have also had plenty of time to think of the act of physical translation, the shortcomings or miracles within our bodies to translate or misunderstand the experiences of these beings.

This summer I will attend the NAHR residency in Val Taleggio, Italy. Here I will be experimenting with an interactive moment La Prima Storia/The First Story translating these images into sound. In short I will pass on the tempo of these heart rates to others who will translate them into a song, releasing them to the air. I will also be exploring the possibilities of sound within the environment of Val Taleggio, the valleys and rivers, the buildings, the open space.
