All the trees must sing

I’ve had the Harpies, the Bells, the Bottles, and the Waterphone in the gallery for the past month and I’ve done some recording. But thanks to Mark Reynolds @bentway23 we were we able to bring in some simple custom made contact mics and a variety of reverb, pedal effects, and amps. We amped the waterphone which is not for the faint of heart and requires an extra sensitive touch. The Harpies seem able to reach other dimensions when amplified. Wild, unexpected chords and shifts, which is what I’ve been hoping they will evolve into. Shaking the whole branch creates a sort of avalanche, spirit-must-escape rumble. The Bottles can really only be electrified if we hookup each bottle, so we need more contact mics. I brought the cello in to play along as well.

I had reservations about the electrified sound. I have feelings about the sound waves “breaking” or being falsified. But it seems to add new dimensions to actual events that are really intriguing.

Since I was playing along I didn’t get many photos. But I’ll be recording as much as I can while I have the space so I can listen and edit later.
